Which Vaccines Are Safe for Immunocompromised Individuals?
Not all vaccines are safe for immunocompromised individuals. Generally, inactivated vaccines (those containing killed viruses or bacteria) are considered safe and can be administered. Examples include the influenza vaccine (injection form), pneumococcal vaccines, and the hepatitis B vaccine. However, live attenuated vaccines (those containing weakened forms of the virus or bacteria) like the MMR vaccine and the varicella vaccine, are typically avoided because they pose a higher risk of causing the disease in immunocompromised individuals.
